Groom One Online – Phase Three Register Now Open!

Description
This online course is designed for newcomers to the horse industry who wish to become competent, employable grooms at either a racetrack or a training facility. Groom One is a CD based course, with each of the 6 units complemented by online discussions facilitated by your instructor & presentations with industry mentors.
You can register for Groom One Online as a complete course, or as part of the Groom One certificate program. This course is a mandatory component of the Groom One Certificate. To achieve the Groom One Certificate of Achievement you must complete all phases. Groom One covers basic horse handling skills, safety as well as other necessary skills to become a Groom.

Designed For
Persons interested in obtaining an entry level positions as grooms in the horse industry or those interested in learning about caring for horses.

Assessment Method
Online quizzes and learning journal assignments are required for successful completion of this course.
Course Topics
The six units in this course include
The Horse (Identification, Anatomy, Physiology, Gaits, Behaviour),
Handling the Horse (Basic safety, basic horse skills)
Horse Care and Disease Prevention (Health Monitoring, First Aid, Disease Prevention),
Nutrition (Feeds, Feeding),
Management (Barn Safety, Daily Routines) and
Community Living (resources for successful career in the industry).

Course Prerequisites
Students must be at least 16 years of age to enroll in this course.

Course Co-requisites
There are four phases to the Groom One program.
Phase One: A 2 day face to face orientation. This workshop is optional but highly recommended.
Phase Two: 6 months work experience
Phase Three: Groom One online
Phase Four: Learning Assessment
